Demand for affordable housing

Demand for affordable housing

The prospects of success at bidding depend partly on supply, partly on parish connections, and partly upon housing applicants making choices about what accommodation they are prepared to consider.  While logged in to the Homes4Wiltshire website, housing applicants will observe the queue positions of those who are successful at bidding and their own relative queue positions for the same properties.  The concept of 'choice based lettings' relies on housing applicants, if they want to move sooner rather than later, making informed judgements about the properties they are likely to bid for successfully.

Demand for rented housing in Wiltshire Council's area is relatively high, particularly in the larger urban centres of Chippenham, Salisbury, Trowbridge and surrounding areas.  One bedroom homes and houses of all sizes are generally highly sought after, and Homes4Wiltshire recommends that housing applicants seeking a house, once registered for re-housing, bid for flats and maisonettes as well as houses, as their prospects of success will be greater.

In rural areas, particularly in places where it is necessary to travel to shops, schools and doctor's surgeries and where there are limited bus services, demand can be lower.  Two bed flats, sheltered housing, bedsits and older persons' homes such as bungalows where the age of tenants is restricted can be in lower demand too.
